International ICT Seagulls Project starts its ninth year.  We are going to start the  Registration on 20th October 2011. The following section will give the needed information concerning the projects of the year 2012. I wish a very fruitful and successful project season with intensive participation and a great collaboration.
PROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
We aim at training innovative, contemporary and qualified generations who are;
  • good at using the Internet and ICT technology efficiently and effectively,
  • aware of the importance of collaboration (=İmece) and team spirit,
  • skilful in determining and solving their own problems and also the problems of the community,
  • knowledgeable about research rules and ethics,
  • brave and hardworking enough to implement the strategies developed for the problem areas,
  • Well-trained and creative in sharing their project steps on an innovative PowerPoint presentation, web page and/or Blog.
Through this Project;
  1. Awareness will be created upon the student-teacher circles (teams) related to;
  • Human dignity, cultural sensitivity and tolerance,
  • Cultural sensitivity and tolerance,
  • Gaining a historical perspective about the studies issues,
  • Team spirit through World Bank awarded “İmece Circles” methodology,
  • Quality focused issues and tools,
  • Technological & Environmental literacy,
  • Creativity: Original and authentic design info,

  • Ethics, especially respecting the copyrights of others,
  • Communication skills & Problem-solving skills,
  • The necessity of feeding “Mind-Body and Spirit” in a positive way.

  2. Participants will develop a positive attitude towards the importance of sharing the results of their projects at a very extraordinary style_ using their imagination to fly towards the beyond of limits just like; “The Seagull Jonathan Livingstone”; not only at national but also at international platforms.
PROJECT TOPICS:
This year, we proposed four main themes in order to enlarge the project areas to give more freedom to the student teams. They are as follows:
1.       How can we increase the rate of success in schools? How can we train more qualified generations?
2.       How can social media help students highlight their talents?
3.       How can we develop “Environmental Sensitivity” in our community prevent the rapid death of our planet?
4.       In the context of interpersonal interactions and relationships, how can we motivate  youngsters to  more Ethical reasoning, which is not only an aim on its own right, but also  a potential mechanism to   protect the vulnerable and the decent from unethical occurrences in schools such as bullying, mobbing and unfairness on the part of teachers or any other superiors?
OUR SLOGAN: Hand-in-hand; on the way of training dignified, successful, empathetic, ethical, environment and technology literate new generations…

I wish a very fruitful and successful project season with intensive participation and a great collaboration.

EVALUATION PROCESS of 2011 SEAGULLS

© 2011 INTERNATIONAL ICT SEAGULLS PROJECT
THE EVALUATION PROCESS STARTED
The eighth year projects of International ICT Seagulls were finalized and they were delivered to the General Coordinator. For various reasons they were completed a little bit delay but however they were handed in as power point presentations, web and Blog addresses. In the beginning of this year, 23 projects registered but unfortunately only 13 projects were found qualified to be assessed.
Since 2003, it is known that more than 3,000 school partners have had advantage through those 260 projects which were totally 260. While producing solutions to the problems of the project problem topics, not only circle members but also family members and other institutions and organizations related to the project schools are also affected and thus a large group of people is hugged by the project.
In recent years, ICT Seagull circles from abroad are joining to the project as well. For instance this year United Kingdom and Nepal are the new partners of the project. Especially Kingston University, London, UK is very welcome due to contribution to the dissemination and publicity of the project which is based upon PDCA Mindset and SQC methodology.
This year our focus was the "Human dignity". "Fairplay in Sports" was the other one. Participating students formed İmece (QC) Circles and tried to bring solutions to the problems they identified. They conducted many activities to prevent the humiliation due to many types of discrimination such as; language, religion, sex, disability, race, disability, and so on. They contributed a lot to the nonviolent peace of the country and of the world. I congratulate them all from the heart.
Now, it is the evaluation time. This process will take place in two stages of the projects which have been approved: Peer- and jury-assessment. The criteria to be used for that were shared with the team leaders. Each team will assess the projects which take place within the same age/level group. Turkish and foreign teams take place within the same groups. Peer-assessment will go on until the date of July 1, 2011. The jury will review the projects until July 20. The results will be announced by the end of July. The international award ceremony will take place in Lucknow, India between November 30th and December 3rd.
I congratulate all the circle members who participated and completed this challenging journey. I wish good luck to all. Have a good summer holiday. With love and peace...

Seagulls Fly for India

Dearest ICT Seagulls,
We are approaching to the deadline of 2011 ICT Seagulls Projects. On the 1st of June I hope all the registered teams will be able to hand in the web pages of their projects.
This year, university teams seem to be working very hard. How?
1. Istanbul Bilgi University students are collaborating with an NGO for the disabled. They work for the residents of a spinal cord paralytics at Hüsnü Ayık Nursing House (www.tofd.org.tr). Since the beginning of the year, they visit the Nursing House regularly and upon the needs of the paralytics they give seminars, they share their problems and they give their love and empathy to them.
2. Boğaziçi University circle focused on non-violence and dignity. They started a little bit late and now thay are conducting their survey.
3.and 4. Kingston University, London is in the project with 2 circles. It started with one circle_Qualitas but after my visit there on 2nd February thet decided to form and start the second Circle named; SQC: International & South Africa Networking_Network & Security.
Our other international circles belong to;
1. Little Angels High School, India,
2. Rabbani School, India,
3. Budhanilkantha School, Kathmandu, Nepal
4. Tshwane School, South africa.
The remaining Teams belong to Turkey. Schools from Izmir, Muğla, Burdur, Tekirdağ and Istanbul are working on their projects.
Last week, Turkish Radio Television Broadcasting Company's Radio 1 interviewed with me and with 2 students from Muğla Circles. If you want to listen to it (sorry in Turkish) you can tick the link below the Turkish section of this web page.
The International Award Ceremony will take place in City Montessori School,Lucknow, ındia on 3rd December 2011.If we can create the appropriate circumstances we also organize a national ceremony is Turkey, but it will be clear in July, after the Evaluation Phase.
I wish good luck to all members of all projects. Ethics is a very improtant issue in our project and please do not forget to mention and also place our logos and names on your project web pages.

Keep Your Innovative Mind Alive

Dear All,
In order to realize the good communication and collaboration (İmece) with 2011 ICT Seagulls Circle members we turned our web page into Blog. From then on, I will update the current page more often. Furthermore, I would also like to see your comments and questions on the Blog when needed. I am grateful to my dearest dost and brother and colleague Mr. mehmet Gül for his great support, especially in IT area.
As our project becomes more global, we feel the need of highly improved models of communication. So; Blog, facebook, Skype are our favourites. We are trying to create a peaceful world with dignified leaders and citizens on it. We believe that İmece / Collaboration Circles are the key element of it.
We all love and respect you all. We are all ONE and EQUAL.
